Can't Believe He's 14

Easton turned 14 on the 28th of March. Since when did I have a teenager? I'm not sure how that happened. It's pretty freaky giving your kid a hug and looking UP at them. He is a great kid.

His party was complete with Family, Pizza,

Rock Band, Chocolate Cake,

..and of course, 14 spankings from Brock and Todd.

One more song, Mom!

I'm sitting here working and it's 11:44 at night. I can't concentrate. Not because I'm tired from being up all week until after 1am. No, it's because my husband and boys are playing Rock Band. On a SCHOOL night! I'm pretty embarrassed to admit that, I have tried to put my foot down for 2 hours. ("But Mom, one more song! But Mom, we just need to download that one song! But mom, we just need to play it once!") Sigh. It's pretty difficult to discipline when your husband is playing too!

Happy Birthday to me...

34 today! We celebrated my birthday with my family yesterday with a spaghetti dinner, Strawberry Shortcake and some Rock Band & Guitar Hero III.
Sara, Easton and Brock rock out. (yes, Brock's mohawk is REAL)

What you don't see is me accidentally spraying whipping cream ALL over my black hoodie.

(yeah, it DOES say EXPERT on Guitar Hero! What kind of mother am I!)

Other than today being a Monday and having to work, it was a good day. The boys sent me flowers at work and for dinner we went to my favorite restaurant, Thai Garden. Vipada the owner always takes such good care of us and brings us fried bananas with coconut ice cream for dessert (yummy). 34 will be a good year!

Coincidence or meant to be?

The past few weeks it seems like every day some kind of interesting coincidence happens to me. Today was no exception.

Rewind to last weekend. I was thinking about one of my childhood best friends as a little girl in my old neighborhood in Murray. Her name was Kara and she lived about 3 houses up from me. I remember countless sleepovers, bike rides, rollerskating, barbies, singing on cassette tapes along with Olivia Newton John, and matching ponytails with long braids. Growing up into junior high, crushes on boys, exchanging cute notes on fancy notebook paper, (I still have them!) long braids turn into short (awful) 80's hairdos, jelly bracelets and fluorescent sweaters. We moved to Park City when I turned 13 and we eventually lost touch. I have always wondered what Kara was up to, and last weekend for some reason searched on the Internet for her. Nothing. Not in myspace, facebook, classmates.com, google, nothing. That night we were shopping at Ikea and I thought I saw her older sister. I looked at this lady for a minute and realized it wasn't her but still wondered about Kara and if I'd ever catch up with her somehow.

Fast forward to today. I was about 15 minutes early for a business appointment and needed to kill a little time (WHEN does that happen? Never!) I figured I'd drive to a nearby store and walk around for a few minutes. There were plenty around that looked tempting but for some very odd reason I went into DollarTree. Let me add I rarely go there, maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I knew I wouldn't buy anything so I didn't even bring in my purse. Just walked in with a business suit on, looking strangely overdressed. I quickly paroozed a few aisles and figured I'd get to my appointment. I wondered why I even bothered. On my way out, in the corner of my eye I looked at a girl gazing at some Easter things. I stopped in my tracks and stared right at her. She turned and looked at me and..."KARA!?" "JANA!?" OH MY GOSH!

Yep, it was her. And she looked exactly the same! She's lived in Washington since after High School and doesn't have the Internet at her house (no wonder I couldn't find her) and just moved back to Utah 2 months ago!

I really wish I would have taken a picture with my phone so I could post it.

Definitely the coolest thing that's happened to me in a long time. Needless to say, I was late for my appointment.

Back in the Saddle Again

Our News Director Sheryl Worsley and me

So after my hand accident in December I swore off community service for quite some time. (see earlier blog). But today I did something much safer than operating power tools...answering phones for our KSL/Primary Children's Medical Center Radiothon. It's my 7th year volunteering, I've done it every year since I've worked at KSL. Just for a couple hours, but I am always so humbled being there. Not just from the stories of such strong families facing the adversity of their children's health problems but at the generosity of such wonderful people in this state that gladly give of their money to support children's healthcare at the hospital. I even took a pledge for $10,000 from a man that asked to remain anonymous! It is a tremendous amount of work for a lot of my coworkers but over $490,000 was raised!

Everyone hard at work

I've been trying to figure out who Jane reminds me of and tonight it hit me. BOO! From Monster's Inc!

Ummm......yeah. I feel a new nickname coming on!

The Mystery of the Missing Valentine

Brandon and I (even though Easton is pictured) made little handmade Valentine cards this weekend. Last night we made chocolate dipped oreo suckers and decorated them. I was looking for a particular card the other day (all are slightly different) and couldn't find it anywhere! I looked and looked. I figured I accidentally threw it away or something. I thought I was going nuts. Last night I jokingly asked Easton if he needed one of the cards for a cute girl in school. He said "no way" and looked away. A while later, wondering again where the heck this card disappeared to, it hit me. I turned to him and asked again if he needed one of the cards for a 'special valentine'. He said "no" but I stared at him with a smile and he wouldn't make eye contact. "YOU STEALER!" I said, and he quickly blushed, jumped up and ran downstairs laughing. I'm not crazy after all. I don't have any clue who this mystery girl is, but she better like the card!
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I hope your day was filled with red construction paper and lots of macaroni!
Or better yet with hearts, chocolate, and chocolate hearts!

Happy Chinese New Year!

It's the year of the Rat! According to a note that a Feng Shui master sent to me, "Rat years bring new beginnings and fresh starts. This is the time to begin projects, lay foundations, announce new plans, launch new products, forge new links, get married, buy a house or start a family. This is not the time for complacency. The clever Rat is constantly on the go, with his eye on the big prize. Opportunities abound for quick, smart and ambitious people. Wisely laid plans in the year of the Rat will bring future successes."

Those of you who know me well, know what I've got up my sleeve. And it looks like it's the year for it, doesn't it!
Aside from that, just reading that gets me excited. It gives me extra confidence and motivation that this year has great promise! I hope each and every one of you have a prosperous new year!

How fast they grow!

Easton, camping last summer at Greys River Jane, last year!
My mom sent me these awesome pics of the kids out of the blue - love them!
